WATCH: 48 Minutes of Cyberpunk 2077 Gameplay revealed
Developers of the heavily anticipated Cyberpunk 2077, CD Projekt Red, recently hosted a gameplay Livestream to give everyone who was enamored with the reveal trailer at E3 2018 a taste of what the game will be like. This was the same footage exclusively broadcasted at Microsoft’s E3 press conference and Gamescom.
Cyberpunk 2077 is a first-person, open-world RPG set in a dystopic future. Visceral, gritty, and futuristic, the game is shaping up to be a truly immersive experience.
Set in the world of “Night City”, the demo kicks off with an in-depth character customization screen where players can choose an intricate backstory for the protagonist, “V”, and customise their appearance. The game uses an open class system, granting players way more choice in how they want the story to play out. Gameplay also relies heavily on choices made by the player, providing examples of different ways to approach a scenario, either peacefully or by going in guns blazing.
Some gameplay elements that were highlighted in the demo were the combat mechanic and character dialogue. The combat often features slow-motion gunfire and interacting with the surrounding environment to take out targets. The game makes use of branching dialog options to respond to other characters.
Like any good sci-fi, there’s also the ability to scan objects or people for info and weaknesses and to hack into most systems. Players gain experience in the form of Street Cred which allows interaction with certain characters and locations in Night City. Night City is also a seamless open world that will never be interrupted by loading screens.
Throughout the video, CD Projekt Red put emphasis on the fact that the game is a “work in progress” and “does not represent the final look of the game”. There’s still no official Cyberpunk 2077 release date, but fan speculation would put it around June 2019.
