McGregor also facing NAC complaint following UFC 229 brawl | Trendsmedia.

Khabib Nurmagomedov won’t be the only one subject to discipline following the UFC 229 postfight melee.

Most of the attention was centered around Khabib Nurmagomedov and his teammates for their actions after the UFC 229 main event, in which Khabib submitted Conor McGregor to defend his lightweight title. The Nevada Athletic Commission has already withheld Khabib’s $2 million purse after he exited the cage and tried attacking Dillon Danis, McGregor’s teammate. However, it looks like new footage will now put McGregor at risk of punishment at the hands of the commission.

Per ESPN’s Brett Okamoto:

NSAC chairman Anthony Marnell told ESPN on Monday the commission is conducting a full investigation into the melee that took place after Nurmagomedov’s championship win against McGregor. The investigation includes lengthy film review and interviews with people involved.

“We will be filing against Conor McGregor and Khabib Nurmagomedov,” Marnell said. “Because we withheld one purse, we will have to move expeditiously to a complaint and hearing. We have held 100 percent of one of the fighter’s money, so the goal is to get the complaints out in the next 24 to 48 hours.”

“This is a serious issue, this is not a light issue,” Marnell said. “This isn’t, ‘We smacked each other in the face in a hotel lobby the week of a fight.’ This is the night of the event, and it needs to stay inside that field of combat. There are serious regulations and statutes about what took place, and the consequences have to match the actions.”

Three individuals, one of them UFC featherweight Zubaira Tukhugov, were arrested but ultimately released after McGregor opted not to press charges for the attack. There’s pretty much no debating that this was call caused by Khabib going after Danis, but as MMA Fighting noted, “Inside the Octagon, McGregor ran over to his corner and climbed on top of the cage. He was joined there by a member of Nurmagomedov’s team. McGregor threw a punch at the man while up there and he hit back. Then, two other members of Nurmagomedov’s team climbed into the cage, attempting to attack McGregor.”

Dana White said a determination over whether or not Nurmagomedov will be stripped of his UFC title is dependent on the length of the suspension the NAC hands him. It is likely that Tukhugov won’t be fighting Artem Lobov in the UFC Moncton co-main event, although that hasn’t been officially announced.
