McGregor issues statement after UFC 229 loss, calls for rematch | Trendsmedia
Conor McGregor and his coach have issued brief statements after UFC 229.
Following the events at UFC 229, Dana White gave a brief statement talking about how Conor McGregor was upset at the defeat, and didn’t care about the brawl. The Irishman himself didn’t attend the post-fight press conference though, but he and his coach John Kavanagh have since issued brief statements on the contest.
McGregor took to twitter and called for a rematch, which is similar to what he asked for immediately after his first defeat in the UFC against Nate Diaz.
Good knock. Looking forward to the rematch.— Conor McGregor (@TheNotoriousMMA) October 7, 2018
Another historical night. Amazing atmosphere, technical fight with excitement all the way thru. All that makes MMA a great sport. Shame about the ending. On to the next one.— Coach Kavanagh (@John_Kavanagh) October 7, 2018
According to the UFC’s official statistics, McGregor was taken down a total of three out of seven attempts from Khabib, which he struggled to get up from. Before getting the fourth round submission, Khabib also landed 70 significant strikes and 104 total strikes. McGregor on the other hand, only landed 50 significant strikes and a total of 96 overall.
With the victory, Khabib improved his unblemished record to 27-0 and kept his lightweight title in the process.
