The Scotsman takes on the former Bellator lightweight champion in Dublin, Ireland on Feb 22.

Chris Bungard and Peter Queally have been verbally sparring online for months, but because of an unfortunate injury picked up by the Irishman, Bungard has been presented with the biggest opportunity of his career.

Bellator announced on Thursday morning that Bungard would be stepping in at late notice to face Brent Primus in the headlining slot of Bellator 240. Queally later revealed that he has suffered an LCL tear, which is why he had to withdraw from the lightweight bout. The event takes place on Saturday, February 22 from 3Arena in Dublin, Ireland and marks the fifth time the promotion has visited the city.

Bungard (15-5) made his Bellator debut last February and picked up a huge upset victory over former BAMMA two-weight champion Terry Brazier. The Scotsman’s momentum came to a halt when he dropped a unanimous decision to Charlie Leary, but he rebounded five months later with a dominant first-round submission win over Benjamin Brander. He has passionate support from his loyal fans who will no doubt make the short trip across to the Emerald Isle.

Primus (9-1) is a former Bellator lightweight champion who has spent the majority of his career in the promotion. After going 5-0 in the Viacom-owned company, including a victory over Derek Anderson, Primus was given a shot at the title and emerged victorious when he overcame Michael Chandler in the first round due to a doctor stoppage. In the immediate rematch, he dropped a unanimous decision to Chandler but subsequently bounced back when he defeated Tim Wilde by gogoplata in May.

Bellator 240 will be part of a dual-event broadcast on the night alongside Bellator Dublin which kicks off the European Series for 2020. James Gallagher, Kiefer Crosbie and Leah McCourt are all scheduled to compete on the card in-front of a partisan crowd.
