‘UY Scuti’ A Bomb Album! Is Olamide Setting A Standard For Veteran Artistes?… My Thoughts | Trendsmedia.
(UY SCUTI Album) If any artiste in the Afrobeats industry right now deserves a 10-Year Anniversary celebration, with a mind-blowing 10 albums in 10 years record, it’s most definitely Olamide Baddo.
On The 18th of June 2021, Olamide Released A New Album titled “UY Scuti” | The Review!
Olamide Adedeji has indeed been in the studio the last few months, dedicating all of himself to the crazed passion that made us all fall in love with him in 2010.
Damn! It’s been a decade of immense fan love and streets music for this Afrobeats pioneer.
Despite being one of the least recognized crossover artistes in the country, Olamide has consistently churned out albums, eps, and major singles spread across ten years.
His work rate is so ‘N’golo Kante’ and he’s definitely Africa’s emerging Kanye.
Olamide’s dedication to honing his sound in this album is glaring, it’s a welcome improvement, a sign that CARPE DIEM was indeed the start of a new dawn and a sign that the trajectory has changed from the ‘former local rapper’.
After ten years, at a period when some of the best of his colleagues are hanging their boots and looking into other interests; Olamide drops the atomic bomb that is UY SCUTI on us, a definite billboard charts climber (I PREDICTED IT HERE FIRST).
This is not Baddo’s first rodeo with slow music, some of his massive love tunes over the years have followed similar patterns, but the difference is clear.
This is a mature man who’s clearly mastered the art of serenading and he’s going hard in this one. Little wonder the album raked almost 10 million views in less than 30 minutes on Audiomack alone.
‘”UY SCUTI” Album by Olamide – The Review
NEED FOR SPEED is a definite tone setter for the album.
“Hustle gat me high, steady grinding for the dough, destination farther mean more flying I know, … tryna chase my dreams Lagos traffic make it slow”
Olamide’s deep baritone slowly unveils the album with a assertion that every Nigerian youth today can relate too, especially if you live in Lagos.
The narrative on this joint is the hustle and grind of being a Lagosian, and you can hear Fireboy’s delicious vocals lending beauty to his boss’s sweet intro jam.
JAILER is a carribean-infused Jamaican joint that sees Olamide putting together a masterpiece alongside Jaywilz.
It’s another sweet love jam, and Jaywillz definitely gave you Oxlade vibes on first listen.
Olamide clearly loves calypso as his lead single off the album ROCK which is the third song on the album gives you total goosebumps vibes.
Baddo’s music making process is now more predisposed to Vibes on Lock & Sonically-pleasing lyrical compositions.
The title of the next song on the album JULIE makes you worry on first sight. Baddo don softie?
‘I kept wondering if Olamide don turn lover boy finish ni’. I mean where are all the lambas I was expecting to counter Ope & Dewunmi with at the office brother Olamide?
Julie samples a little of Gyptian & Nickiminaj’s 2010 global smash hit Hold Yuh, so you already know Julie is a certified love story.
ROUGH UP with Laydoe is an impressive blend of her smashing vocals and Baddo’s deep baritone bedroom voice.
Fave’s double collaboration on Olamide’s UY SCUTI album; WANT & PONPON are sultry numbers and all the validation that she needs to solidify her place as the next break out star.
What’s any Baddo album without a nostalgic collaboration with Phyno. Both artiste show off the dexterity in their musicianship, gliding confidently on the slow number, SOMEBODY and making the girl feel like she’s the most loved female in the universe.
CUP OF TEA is the only song on the album that caters to Olamide’s core street fans. He does what he knows how to do best on this track, appropriately sprinkling the right amount of lamba and his signature baritone sultry voice on this record.
It’ll probably be a major TikTok success given its groovy vibe and the occasional jab of Lamba that puts you at ease.
The outro is just outright delicious. Olamide dedicates SO MUCH MORE to the woman, he tries to restore his woman’s self confidence on this joint, encouraging her to wipe her tears and not cry no more.
This is an impeccable outro to the already lovey-dovey project as it touches on an emotional subject that patriarchal Nigeria is unwilling to clear the air on.
Baddo is well known for ushering new artistes to the limelight via his major projects; some of them include Fireboy who was introduced on the YBNL joint MAFIA FAMILY album, Chinko Ekun who was introduced on Olamide’s 2014 STREET OT album, Bad Boy Timz & P.Prime who both enjoyed more successes after their presence on Olamide’s previous CARPE DIEM album, among others.
Alas, Olamide Baddo is charting a new peak in his career trajectory, and he’s making music that catapults artistes to renewed stardom, one level higher, and one Devil better than the last.
To be honest, the vibes on this project is so refined that it gives you some Peaky Blinder feeling. Baddo is the new Tommy Shelby of Afrobeats.
He’s breaking down stereotypes and ensuring that everyone around him eats. Hard work isn’t new to Baddo, and it’s clearly evident in yet another project.
Baddo is targeting the bill board charts on this project, you can feel it from the top notch production, underlying vocals, and the confidence with which he renders his love jams.
His album title UY SCUTI is testament that the African Icon is now more invested in growth and crossing boundaries with his music.
With the release of the UY Scuti project, I hope we’ll finally be able to regard Olamide as the most consistent cross over artiste in Africa.
Another important thing to watch is the local reception to the album. For the most part of Baddo’s 10-year long career, he’s been the biggest artiste in the local space, dishing out ‘premium street’ content to his core fans.
It’s therefore imperative to understand the effect of this new kind of Baddo on his core street fans.
Will they be able to stomach an Olamide album without the loud slangs, mannerisms, and unbeatable lambas?
Or will Olamide lose his core fans to due to Empire’s influence on his career right now?
