Nigerian Men’s National Basketball Team Pays Tribute To Late Sound Sultan After Defeating Argentina | Trendsmedia.
Sound Sultan Forever in our hearts….
The Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) paid a glowing tribute to Sound Sultan after Nigeria’s men’s basketball team, D’Tigers thrashed Argentina on Monday.
The D’Tigers in preparation for the forthcoming Tokyo 2020 Olympics won 94-71 over fourth ranked Argentina in an exhibition in Las Vegas.
This victory is coming hours after they shocked the basketball world with a 90-87 win over Team USA who are known to have the best NBA players.
Taking to their verified Twitter account, NBBF dedicated Nigeria’s big wins against the USA and Argentina to the late veteran musician, Sound Sultan.
“We dedicate the victories against US & Argentina to late Olanrewaju Fasasi (@Soundsultan). You saw this day coming when Nigeria would become a dominant force in global basketball. Ironically, the day we won against @usabasketball, that was when you gave up the ghost. RIP”.
Sound Sultan died on Sunday, July 11 after a battle with throat cancer. During his lifetime, Sultan was a huge basketball enthusiast. He played in school and in 2015 acquired a stake in the Lagos Islanders, a Lagos-based basketball club founded in 1984.
His contribution and passion for sports was also acknowledged by President Buhari and the Governor of Lagos State, Sanwo-Olu as they paid tributes to him on the 12th of July 2021.
