A South African singer, Tyla Seethal, could not hide her excitement upon winning the Best African Music Performance category at the 66th Grammy Award, which held in the United States of America on Sunday, February 4, 2024.

She won the award with her hit song titled, ‘Water’. The category, which was newly introduced this year, also had heavyweights such as Burna Boy, Davido, Asake, Olamide and Arya Starr as nominees.

Expectedly, Tyla’s win sent shockwaves throughout the music industry. Following her win, the singer set a record of being the first winner in the category

Expressing her excitement, she wrote on X (formerly Twitter), “Africa, we got one.”

In another post, she wrote,

“Youngest African to win a Grammy.”

She also took to her Instagram page to pour out her heart in a heartfelt post, expressing her gratitude for the support of her loyal fans, whom she affectionately referred to as her ‘Tygers’.

She wrote,

“I am so honoured to be the first winner of a Grammy under this newly introduced category. We made history. I want say some more ‘thank yous’ to all my Tygers. Congratulations to all the winners and nominees. Africa to the world.”

Apparently elated that the young star brought the award home, the President of South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa, congratulated her during a video call. He said, “You are excellent. You have made all of us so proud. Our mood is much better. You have put South Africa on the map once again.”
