Pros and Cons - UFC 229: Khabib vs McGregor immediate twitter analysis

UFC 229 is in the books, and Khabib Nurmagomedov ended up completely dominating Conor McGregor. A post-fight brawl also ensued immediately after (video here) that was a pretty bad look for everyone involved.

Here’s a quick twitter thread with a brief recap and analysis of the event, that’s fitting for people’s social media era attention spans:

WATERSON DECISIONS HERRIG

PROS: Waterson had nice lead kicks that constantly landed. Looked great from bottom too despite the size disadvantage.

CONS: Maybe could’ve had a finish if Waterson didn’t initiate too many clinches, but it was still a good performance.

LEWIS COMEBACK KOs VOLKOV

PROS: WOOOOOW. Heavyweights! 10 seconds left on the fight Volkov was dominating. He had that in the bag, but got sloppy for one second, and it was over that quick.

REYES PICKS APART OSP

PROS: Reyes’s diversity and feints looked great as he completely out-struck OSP, who was still content to throwing one shots at a time. That knockdown at the end was $$$.

CONS: Not a big deal, but there were a few uneventful stretches.

FERGUSON WINS BLOODY BRAWL WITH PETTIS

PROS: Pettis came in as a huge underdog but he brought it, even scored a knockdown. Ferguson’s cardio and pressure is insane though. This was a guaranteed FOTN.

KHABIB CHOKES OUT MCGREGOR

PROS: Khaib dominated. He even landed the best shots on the feet, and looked like he was trying to make a point by striking with him. It was a great performance that can make him a star, but..

UFC 229 OVERALL

PROS: It had everything from a ‘big event’ feel, to numerous, fun, and great performances from top to bottom.

CONS: Khabib jumping the cage, and his teammate sucker punching Conor was just awful. UFC shouldn’t be surprised though. https://t.co/998zy4UpLP
