UFC 229 video recap: Ferguson stops Pettis via corner stoppage | Trendsmedia.
Anthony Pettis was unable to answer the bell for round three, so Tony Ferguson won by TKO in the UFC 229 co-main event.
Tony Ferguson just defeated Anthony Pettis by TKO in the UFC 229 co-main event, when Pettis was unable to answer the bell for the third round due to a broken hand.
What was the high point of the fight?
Pettis rocked his foe early on in the second round, putting Ferguson on skates before taking top position. Pettis did his best to finish, but Ferguson worked his back to his feet and got himself back into the fight. Somewhere during Pettis’ flurry, he broke his hand, which likely aided Ferguson in rallying back to finish the round strongly.
Where do these two go from here?
Ferguson never really lost his interim lightweight belt, so logic would dictate that he would be next in line for a title shot, no matter who it might be. He asked for Conor McGregor in his post-fight interview, but that decision is McGregor’s and McGregor’s alone. Khabib is still the champ, but who knows what the situation is for him right now following the post-fight incident.
As for Anthony Pettis, he put up a respectable performance nearly finishing Ferguson in the second round, so there is still more left in the tank of the former lightweight champ. Hopefully, big fights is what Pettis will find himself in. A super-fight with Jose Aldo is one that hardcore fans have been asking for for some time now.
Watch it now, later or never?
You might as well watch it now. The second round is when things really got cooking, but it’s worth sitting through the first round for it.
